What they dont tell you about Breast Feeding...

What I thought I knew about breast feeding:

  • It was special bonding time between Mommy and Baby
  • There is a few different positions to use
  • Its super easy
  • Its super convenient
  • Its cheap
  • Its hassle free

The truth about breast feeding:
  • Its not really bonding the first three weeks due to the pain
  • Its so painful
  • Your nipples feel like they're being ripped off
  • Your nipples bleed
  • Your nipples scab
  • Its not completely free since you buy every type of nipple cream made to help heal your nipples
  • Your boobs get rock solid and painful if you dont feed or pump
  • Your boobs will leak all over the place, staining your clothes
  • When your milk "lets down" it is also painful
  • Its awkward, especially the first few weeks, and when family/friends are around
  • You will flash multiple people multiple times
  • You will punch, kick, squeeze and bite things while breast feeding to help get through the pain
  • You WILL cry
Everyone said it would get better after two weeks but for me it didn't, and after three weeks of torture I almost gave up on it. This is where pumping saved my life! I started pumping every day and night and giving her the bottle so that my nipples could have a break and heal. Pumping is not pain free but at least it doesnt make your nipples bleed! After about two weeks of pumping I started breast feeding again and the first two days were awful but then it got a little bit better. My sweet little angel is now a tiny bit over two months and it is still painful. I still have to use creams and I still cringe and grind my teeth almost every time I feed her, but its not as extreme as the first month. (I dont kick my table anymore)
But Now that the pain isnt as bad, it is bonding. I LOVE it when Im feeding Princess Pay and she is looking at me and then she takes a break from drinking and smiles. Its so cute. Im so happy I didnt give up on it. I know that it is the most beneficial for her health and development. I have gone through so much for her (10months of pregnancy, over 12hrs labor, vaginal birth, breast feeding) I can honestly say that I would do anything for her, and there is proof that it is true!
