So Levi started dieting. He cut out almost all carbs, dairy, and sweets. He ate tons of chicken, steak, salmon, brown rice, rice cakes, oatmeal pancakes, broccoli, and carrots. Surprisingly he even ate a few salads! And he lost 18 pounds!!!! (I wish I could do that!)
Levi's friend Brendan helped Levi every step of the way. He checked in on him every day to make sure he wasnt down on himself and gave him tons of encouragement, helped him get a free spray tan for the competition, had Levi's music cut for him for his posing routine, and taught him the correct poses.
His SWEET wife helped him with his posing routine and made him practice almost every night and gave him constructive criticism.
Levi's mom flew in to town to visit and support Levi and also helped boost his confidence after he found out a lot of the guys competing use steroids and he is one of only a few natural guys in the competition.
The day before the competition Levi had to weigh in. He lost an extra two pounds and was forced to be in the Middle Weight Class instead of the Light Heavy Weight class which he wanted to be in. He also had to get his first coat of spray tan. When he came home he looked like a different person. This red headed very white man came into the house looking like a mexican! It was fun to see.
The next morning Levi went in early to get his second coat of spray tan and get ready for the pre-judging which is where they pose against all the guys in their weight class and their place/rank is decided but not yet announced. When Levi came out on stage Lisa and I were both shocked because the judges hadnt called his number and when he came out he was this super dark HUGE man, we had to do a double take. He did very well on stage and the judges moved him around a lot trying to compare him to all the other competitors.
After pre-judging we came home and posted some pictures on FB, ate, and rested. Levi told us that for the pre-judging he was super nervous, but that he wasnt nervous any more and couldnt wait to go back out on stage.
We brought Levi's friend Sabir with us to the competition who just got back from Africa, and then it was Lisa, Payton and I. Payton was a handful and got freaked out with all the noise. I think all the people sitting next to us hated me because I was up and down with her and she was super fussy. It was hard to take care of her and try to enjoy the competition and take good pictures all at the same time. But Im glad she came. It was her daddy up there on stage and I didnt want her to miss it either.
Brendan competed in the physique class and in the lightweight class. He got 3rd in physique and 1st in lightweight. We cheered super loud for him!
When Levi got on stage you could tell that he was more confident. His routine was perfect and he smiled the biggest. He was in the top 5 of his class and when they announced 5th place I was so excited that it wasnt him, and then 4th place and I was stoked that he was in the top three, and then 3rd place was announced and I was so excited that he could be 1st, he worked so hard and looked so good! He ended up with second place and got a huge trophy that weights about 20 pounds. The guy who beat him was on steroids and had competed before, but he was not that much bigger than Levi. When Levi's name was called for 2nd place he had this huge grin on his face, he was so happy.
Top five of the Middle Weight Class
4th, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 5th
Levi and Brendan
Levi and Mama
Levi and Sabir
We went to an after party at Texas Roadhouse where he and Brendan ate bread with cinna butter!!! And Levi brought his trophy with him to sit at the table :) We had a super good time and were exhausted by the time we got home.Levi cant wait to compete next year where he says he is going to take first. :)
